Step 1
Select the topic for your essay. A topic should be broad enough that you can write several paragraphs about it but not so broad that you need to write 15 pages.
Step 2
Break your topic into sections according to paragraph. Your first paragraph is the introduction. Next are at least three paragraphs, sometimes more, with your main points. Finally, the conclusion is in the last paragraph.
Step 3
Decide which points will go into which of your middle paragraphs (called the “body” of the essay). Put your points in a logical order that will make sense to the reader.
Step 4
Begin the essay with an introductory paragraph. Briefly explain your topic and why it should be important to the reader. End this first paragraph with a thesis statement, explaining what the rest of the essay will be about.
Step 5
Write the body of the essay with each paragraph, focusing on one specific aspect of your topic. To help the essay flow better, transition into each paragraph with words that help the writing flow.
Step 6
Finish the essay with a final paragraph that wraps everything up. Make any final points, and end with a sentence that the reader will remember.
Tips & Warnings
The average essay should be between two and four pages, double-spaced with a 12-point font. However, your instructor may have different requirements, so be sure to read your directions carefully.

How to write a descriptive essay
Writing any essay can be a rewarding experience if the subject is something you are interested in and you take the time to do the project well. However, a descriptive essay can be by far the most fun. Here you will learn writing an essay is easy. A descriptive essay will allow you to take the subject that you know well and help others to become an expert in it. The key is learning how to write a descriptive essay effectively.
As with all project’s you are probably given either a choice from a limited range of subjects or you are asked to write on something specific. Whether this is something that you know nothing about initially, or it is something that you understand very well, you first need to conduct some research. You are going to be the subject expert when you write but do not assume you know the subject well until you have looked at several sources, and the subject from different angles. This will give you new perspective on the subject and allow you to tell your reader things that they may never have considered.
The introduction of the essay presents the topic to the reader. It must be provide accurate information to start the essay so it gives great framework for the essay. In this portion, you inform the audience what the body of the essay is going to tell them.
How to write a descriptive essay is all about making sure that you organize the material in such a way that your audience understands where you are coming from and does not leave any holes for the reader to guess at. The organization should be clear, but it doesn’t have to be concise. Sometimes it takes many words to describe something well. Do not worry if the subject seems to be running on longer than you want it to. The editing process is used for paring down a manuscript that has become too rich in description. A great way to accomplish the editing is use some sort of sequential pattern. Most often this is done by using some general sentences and then becoming more specific as you go.
Here is an example:
By the river was an old sawmill. The mill had a large wheel that hung limp and silent above the level of the water. The mill had been used to grind the neighboring farmer’s grain in the past, but it now had no purpose other than to dare frightened children to enter its dark depths.
As you can see the first sentence is short and sets the scene. The second sentence gives you a little more detail, and the third starts getting into even more specific aspects of the mill.
Another way to organize this type of essay is to use individual paragraphs to give the reader different aspects of the topic. This would be accomplished as follows if you were describing a bicycle:
* First paragraph: components
* Second paragraph: frame types
* Third paragraph: handle bars and seat posts.
* Fourth paragraph: tires
In this way you could come at the subject from all angles and make sure that the topic was covered completely.
The conclusion of the essay must, again, restate what you have already said. This means that you need to summarize what was important about the entire article so that the reader knows what to take from it. A well written introduction and conclusion frame the essay so that the audience better understands the subject. Another great idea to use when writing a conclusion is using a tag line for the last sentence of your conclusion. A tag line is similar to your introduction paragraphs first sentence. Simply write a sentence or two about a joke or use a quote to grabs the readers attention to add some spice at the end of the essay. The tag line must be some how related to your essay. Now you know how to write a descriptive essay.
Learning how to write a comparison essay may seem difficult initially. The task is to compare and contrast two similar ideas, constructs, or tangible things with one another. If the correct structure is used, the assignment can be a breeze. Following is a discussion of how you can adequately introduce, arrange, and conclude the comparison essay. Overall writing essays will become easier once you really know how to write a comparison essay.
Introduction
There are a few easy steps that can get you started with this essay that will make the introductory paragraph much easier to deal with.
* Read and understand the topics that are assigned.
* Research the topics and decide what issues need to be addressed in the essay.
* In the introduction, begin with a general statement about the two elements and then narrow your focus to the issues that are to be discussed.
* Make sure that you include a rational, clearly delineated thesis statement within the body of the introductory paragraph.
Remember that the premise is first broached in the introduction. The audience needs to read what they are going to be told. How the body is going to be structured also needs to be explained in this initial paragraph.
Body
The body of the essay can be constructed in several different ways. You have two different entities to present and compare and the body of the paper is where evidence needs to be given that leads to a conclusion. Realize that due to the research and thought that you have put into this topic, you are the subject expert. Make sure and do the topics justice by clearly and succinctly ensuring that the reader understands the issues at hand. Here are the most common types of structures that can be followed when comparing and contrasting two subjects.
* Method One: Split the body of the essay into two distinct halves. The first half will tell about one subject and the second half the other. It is always best to use the second half, directly before the conclusion, to discuss the topic that you feel the most strongly about. These essays are also persuasive; people generally pick one side or the other. Let your side be the last thing that the audience will read.
* Method Two: When you have many points to make about the disparate issues, use one paragraph per issue. This means that you discuss both topics in each paragraph. This allows you to directly compare and contrast the two issues with a multitude of separate points.
* Method Three: Use the first few paragraphs of the body to compare the different topics on certain issues and the last few paragraphs of the body to contrast the two topics on those same issues.
Any one of these methods will work depending on how you decide that the information you have gathered will stand out the best. Complex issues may be dealt with the best using Method Three and topics that have a lot of points to be considered may come out best using Method Two. Make sure that whatever method you choose it represents the comparison in such a way that the reader will best understand what you are saying.
Conclusion
In the conclusion to any paper you need to restate the purpose of the essay. Use the following structure to make sure that all the bases are covered.
* In the first sentence, restate the thesis statement. This brings the reader back to the main point.
* Next briefly outline the main points in two or three sentences.
* Draw the entire paper together by leaving the reader with a conclusory statement that shows them your intent or bias.
A successful conclusion is one that draws the entire essay to a thorough close. Without this element the reader is left hanging. Tie up any loose ends and make sure that the message is clear. Learning how to write a comparison essay just became easier!

Writing an essay can be a difficult process. An essay requires meticulous preparation, and is an arduous task.
Many people within academia have major difficulty understanding how to write an essay. Yet any student who devotes the time needed can be taught how to write an essay. Usually, an essay requires research on a specific topic. This research will serve as the information bank for the essay. When learning how to write an essay, it important to consider just exactly what an essay is. For example, the origin of the word essay is derived from the French word “essayer” which means to try or attempt. When the Frenchman Michel de Montaigne was researching how to write an essay he basically figured he was “attempting” to put his thoughts down on paper, thus, he coined the term “essay” to describe the process. Actually, the key to writing a good essay is having a well written outline.
When researching how to write an essay, it is important to remember that an extensive outline is the key to writing a good essay. An outline will make your essay more structured and will help with organization. An outline should consist of all the valuable information you gained while writing your essay. Usually, an outline consists of a chronological assessment of ideas that need to be incorporated into the essay.
An essay is divided into three basic parts: The Introduction, the Body, and the Conclusion. First, we will deal with the introduction.
When analyzing how to write an essay, the introduction is basically the most important part of the essay. The introduction serves as the hook; it gets the reader interested, and summarizes the entire essay. A good introduction should tell the reader exactly what the particular essay is about. In fact, the introduction should attract the reader, and produce interest in whoever is reading the essay. The introduction shouldn’t be too long, and it should contain a thesis statement. When learning how to write a cohesive essay, it is important to remember that the thesis statement is crucial. What is the thesis statement? A thesis statement is what the writer believes and/or intends to prove.
The next section of a comprehensive essay is the body. When analyzing how to write an essay it is also important to understand that the body of an essay is the primary component of a good essay. The body is what English professionals call the “meat” of the essay. Actually, when writing an outline, it is important to consider the information one wants to include in the body of the essay. The body of a good essay usually consists of several paragraphs. Each paragraph should begin with what English majors call a topic sentence. The topic sentence serves a similar purpose as the thesis statement. The topic sentence is supposed to tell what the paragraph is all about. When a writer develops the topic sentence and does not deviate from it, unity is achieved. If you digress, you merely confuse your reader. The topic sentence can help you maintain unity if you keep asking yourself if the example you are citing really is an example of your topic sentence.
The last part of a good essay is the conclusion. The conclusion is very similar to the introduction in that it restates the main idea of the essay. If the writer has deviated from the basic idea contained in the introduction, then the conclusion should reflect that metamorphosis. It’s basically a restatement of the thesis. Always include a call to action statement in your conclusion. A call to action statement is a great way to great the reader thinking right before you throw in your tag line. A call to action statement should try to ask the reader to do something or take action. Finally, try to end your conclusion with a great tagline. What is a tagline? A tagline is just like the first sentence of the introduction paragraph. Some great ideas for tagline are quotes, jokes, or something that will grab the reader’s attention.
Understanding how to write an essay is easier if one follows these steps. It should be noted that preparation is key when learning how to write an essay
